Personality & History

Personality:
Bernie is a lively lady with funny stories and copious amounts of useless info stored in her brain. e

History:
She had lived a different sort of life. Not one she would want for anyone really. Mum and Pops passed away shortly after she left Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. It was a tragic accident, one that she never spoke of. They said it was an accident, they said it was carbon monoxide in a train car, she didn’t believe it.

After leaving Beauxbatons, Bernie went on to travel the world studying her one true love, wand lore. It was an ancient magic, one not often discussed or taught. Bernie interned with three different wand makers, none were “the greats,” because honestly they were annoying and ‘exclusive,’ but that doesn’t mean she didn’t learn.

With her parents gone and nothing else to focus on she made it her life’s mission to become one of the greatest wand makers of her age. She dreamt of making the best wands with the rarest ingredients and taking on interns as they came looking for help. She would help those that wanted help and teach those that wanted to learn. Wand Making didn’t have to be so secretive.

After interning with wand makers from Japan, Switzerland, New York City, Sweden and Russia, Bernie took the things she learned and began to create.

Lucky for her, after her parents death, she was left with a large nest egg that allowed her to focus on her craft and build up her stock. Her first wands were decidedly horrible. Exploding more than anything else, but as she perfected her technique and built her skill, the wands she was producing were better quality and sought after.

At the young age of 35, Bernie opened her shop, Elder and Ash in famed Diagon Alley. Her store began to see more and more students, her wands were tested and loved by those who purchased and the word began to spread that Bernie Hawthorn was making amazon wands. She prided herself on good quality woods, rare and common as well as core’s that some wand makers were too nervous to handle. With the respect that the ingredients deserved, bernie had learned to make some of the rarest wand combinations in Europe.

Prompt Response:
"HOW DARE YOU!"

Bernadette looked at the older woman with a look of bewilderment. "Ummm, beg your pardon?"

The older lady with white curly hair and a the look of a constipated grandmother, was waggling her finger a few inches from Bernie's face. She was so close in fact that Bernie could see the tell tale signs of a recently shaved mustache.

"I SAW YOU!" Pointing at Bernie now, color rising in her cheeks. "You put that wand in your pocket. I saw you, I'm going to get the owner. YOU WATCH ME!"

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, ok. Sure. Absolutely. of course the lady thought she stole that wand in her back pocket, because who would believe a WOMAN would own a wand shop. Shock and awe, it just can't be!

Nodding her head, a look of contemplation and abashed guilt on her face. "I am so, SO sorry ma'am. I understand your concerns. I would expect nothing more. If you feel like I have stolen something, please, I completely understand if you need to involve the authorities."

The older lady looked taken aback, but also like she had won the largest prize at the carnival. Opening the door and calling for the Auror that routinely patrolled the streets of Diagon Alley, the older woman came back in, pointing at Bernadette with anger in her eyes. "HER! SHE was stealing, LOOK, she still has the box in her pocket."

The auror looked at the older women, then at Bernie. "I see. hi Bernadette, how are you today?" With a smile she dipped her chin, "hello to you Thomas, I am fantastic. Are you bringing little Pauly in for his wand before school?"

The older woman's eyes bounced back and fourth, color rising in her cheeks. "But but but..."

Bernadette, having fun with the situation, decided to put the poor woman out of her misery. "I own the shop ma'am, I was not stealing. but I thank you for your service to my establishment. You can go, whenever you are finished." With that, Bernie turned and walked away. "GOODBYE THOMAS, SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!"
