Code of Conduct & Character Guidelines Welcome to Knockturn Bound, a collaborative writing world steeped in shadowed lore, dusty tomes, and a bit of post-war chaos. Whether you're here for dark academia, cursed bloodlines, or petty House drama, one thing remains true: we keep it respectful, creative, and uniquely ours. Below, you'll find the expectations that keep the magic flowing and the community from going up in flames. On Conduct & Community Mind Your Magic and Your Manners. This is a roleplaying site, not a dueling pit. Treat fellow players with kindness, assume good intent, and give each other grace. That includes:
Disagreements? Handle them like adults: direct, polite, and with the option to disengage if emotions are running high. You are never obligated to engage with anyone who makes you uncomfortable. Keep boundaries clear and courteous. We are not responsible for your interpersonal dynamics, but we do expect them to be civil. If at any time, you have attempted to resolve a conflict civilly and the other party continues to engage in unwelcome behavior, please reach out to an admin. Additionally, if you don't believe there can be made a civil resolution on your own, please reach out to us. We want you to feel safe and comfortable here. On Identity & Accounts One user per account. Sharing accounts is forbidden. Returning under a new name? We get it, but you must notify the admins privately. You don’t have to tell the public, but lying to staff about who you are is grounds for a ban. Admins will never out your identity, but we do require honesty for safety and site integrity. On Roleplay & Characters Every character has a story to tell, and no one’s the “main character” of Knockturn Bound. This is a collaborative world built on rich, flawed, evolving people. We love characters who make mistakes, face consequences, and grow over time. Give us the drama. The contradictions. The quiet fears and dangerous tempers. The masks they wear and the truths they hide. We want characters who learn, change, break, rebuild. Looking to explore something more unusual like a rare ability, creature lineage, or original magic? Amazing. Submit a special request and tell us your vision. We’re excited to hear your ideas. At the end of the day, we value depth over perfection. All characters must be original and human unless otherwise approved. That means:
Timeline continuity matters. Returning players, your characters will have aged along with the site. Pick up from the current date, not the one you left off. On Characters & Points Brand new members receive one student character slot and one WW (Wizarding World) character to start. Members joining us from other RP sites receive two student character slots and two WW (Wizarding World) characters to start. Additional character slots can be awarded after two terms of active writing and engagement. There will also be opportunities throughout various terms to win an additional character slot through challenges and writing accolades. Professors & Staff You may have one professor alongside your student(s) if accepted for a position. Retiring Characters Retirement is permanent. Deleted accounts cannot be restored. Only admins can retire accounts; contact us for the process. Player Activity We understand that real life sometimes gets in the way of the writing we want to do. If you foresee an extended absence, please notify the admins and your writing partners as a personal courtesy to them (no details needed!). If we are not notified of your absence, or if your absence extends beyond your stated time without notifying us, we will place your character in a "deactive" state for a period of three in-character (IC) terms or one out-of-character (OOC) year. After this time, your character is subject to possible retirement. At any time during your "deactive" state, you can simply reach out to an Admin and be reinstated. On-Site Behavior & Boundaries Respect our house. Don’t copy our content, code, graphics, or lore. Don’t repost our materials elsewhere. Don’t use another player’s code without permission, even if you modify it. Privacy First! Please don’t overshare personal details on boards or the Discord server. If you go offsite with another player, that’s between you. Admins cannot moderate what happens beyond our borders. Remember that once you put information out there, you can’t get it back. No unsolicited links or advertisements. The only place for advertising other sites is the Advertisements forum. That includes offsite Discords, other RPs, or personal projects. All advertisements must be pre-approved by the admins, prior to being posted. Doing so otherwise will result in disciplinary action. Feedback is welcomed, not weaponized. We know all too well how it feels to offer feedback and have the door slammed in our face, or worse, targeted because of it. We love a good suggestion, but we ask that feedback be respectful. Present concerns like the adult writer you are. We will listen, and we will respond in kind. Content Warnings & Safety This place is a creative escape. At no point is out-of-character (OOC) conversation permitted to include politics, religion or any other topics that are considered divisive or have the potential to result in hostile interactions. We don’t want it here. Full stop. Hate speech, slurs or defamatory remarks about any Protected Class will result in an immediate ban, without discussion or explanation. There is zero tolerance here. Consider this the only warning. Stick to the site rating. See here for our Site Rating guidelines, what is allowed, what needs special approval and what is never tolerated. If a rule is broken, tell staff. You are not the enforcer, but you are the eyes and ears of the community. Let us handle it from there. Writing & Posting Rules RP posts should be written in third-person, past-tense. No godmodding or powerplaying unless explicitly permitted and noted OOC. All exceptional plot elements (major injuries and exceptional gore, deaths, rare traits) require admin approval. We are a 1920s-era RP. Keep your tech and references on-theme. In addition, please keep to the spirit of the timeframe. Political and social behaviors should be reflective and accurate of the period we are in. If you are unsure, please reach out to the mods or admins for help deciphering. Avatar Rules No nudity, no underwear-only shots. Keep it classy. We reserve the right to deny any avatar we find inappropriate or distasteful. Ideal size: 200x300px Keep OOC out of IC forums. That’s what the General OOC board is for. Hogwarts Rules One approved pet per student (cat, owl, rat, toad, etc.). One student per player may participate in Duelling; two are allowed for Quidditch, and the Hospital Wing. All IC events (more than 5 characters in a thread) and clubs need admin approval. Students may only leave the castle grounds during term with IC permission (Hogsmeade trips and holidays excluded). Entering other house common rooms requires a special request and must serve a strong plot purpose. Welcome to the shadows between Knockturn’s cobblestones. If you need help, seek out the admin team. We’re usually lurking in the library or lighting matches in the dark. Now go forth. Write boldly. |
