“Good day to you! Welcome to Elder and Ash, I am Bernadette…Hmm… Or Bernie or Miss Hawthorn or Witchy McWitchface,” she titters with laughter, high and squeaky. “Don’t you fret, I will answer to just about anything… Except Clyde.” She shakes her head emphatically. “HE is a bowtruckle and can be quite persnickety, so watch your eyeballs, he likes to poke.” She nods at the young student, as if what she said was the most important piece of knowledge to take away from this conversation.
“Can I assume you are here to find your wand? Yes!? Of course! Good Good.” Not waiting for a response, Bernie comes around the counter and begins measuring the patron who just entered her shop. Lifting this arm and that, measuring each individual finger, kneeling and quickly measuring their feet, then popping back up to look deeply, and awkwardly into their eyes. “Fascinating. Did you know a quarter of the bones in your body are in your hand? No?! I didn't think so. OK! Let’s find you a wand. Pop Pop!”
Bernie ran around the shop, spitting out random nonsense facts that most people really didn’t need to know. “Did you know that your left lung is slightly smaller than your right? Did ya? Nope. Why? To make room for your heart? Awwww, so sweet.”
“Ok, let's try this one on for size.” Coming down from a ladder with a long box, Bernie handed the wand over to the student. It was rare to find a match with the first box, but it could be done. “Go on then,” she said, waving her hands about. “Give it a flick.”
Applewood with a Fairy Wing Core, Springy 10 3/4 inches
OOC:
Applewood wands are not made in great numbers. They are powerful and best suited to an owner of high aims and ideals, as this wood mixes poorly with Dark magic. It is said that the possessor of an apple wand will be well-loved and long-lived, and I have often noticed that customers of great personal charm find their perfect match in an applewood wand. An unusual ability to converse with other magical beings in their native tongues is often found among apple wand owners, who include the celebrated author of Merpeople: A Comprehensive Guide to Their Language and Customs, Dylan Marwood.
Fairy Wing Core: A decently powerful but fickle core, fairy wing cores make for a light and airy wand that is not exceptionally rare but are still not the most popular. Wands with this core do quite well with charms, transfiguration and divination, but are only average in defense against the dark arts. There is sometimes a talent for the ethereal. They are also quite poor for hexes and curses. Fairy wing cores have been used as a dual core with a unicorn hair to great effect.
Wands with this core prefer owners who have some connection to the mystic; as such they most often choose individuals who possess the Sight. These people are wise souls, but can seem quite dim and flakey as their heads are so often high up in the clouds. They’re social skills are lacking, and they are often quite terribly organized, their minds always somewhere far away. Those who get to know these witches find that they can have extraordinary insights, and a wonderful sense of humor. They enjoy their solitude, where they can focus both inward and outward and exercise and experiment with their gift. If allowed to flourish, they may one day become very wise and respected seers.

Alice looked around, amazed by the shop she was in. Sure, she’d seen wands before – being a Pureblood. It was only natural that she grew up around magic. However, she was now here to get her very own wand and that was – she thought – absolutely incredible.
“...Witchy McWitchface?” Alice asked softly, the loud woman with bright orange hair flitting about like some sort of fairy.
Alice’s arm was lifted, looked at, then the other was lifted and looked at. As the woman continued to inspect the girl, she bit her lip trying not to laugh. Alice herself was so much more mild-mannered, and this woman was a lot.
The next thing she knew, a wand was in her hand and the girl looked at it wide-eyed. “Just a flick?” she asked, as if she needed confirmation that she had heard the woman correctly.
Okay, here goes… she thought to herself and flicked the wand.
The last thing she expected is what happened: water exited the end and sprayed the wand maker in the face. Alice’s eyes widened in horror. “Oh my gosh, I am so sorry!” she exclaimed, wondering just how mad her mum and dad might be.
“OH FOR THE LOVE OF CHERRY BLOSSOMS! That was NOT the one.” Spluttering from the water, Bernie snatched the wand out of their hand, packaging it up gingerly, folding the gauze ribbon over the wand as if it were a sleeping baby. The box was carefully placed on the back counter under a sign that read “NOPE!” Those would be cleaned and checked for damage before returning to the shelf.
“Ok, let me think, let me think. Hmm..” Turning abruptly, Bernie went to stare at the poor young soul in her shop. Arms crossed, fingers tapping thoughtfully on her chin. After a couple rotations around the student, she stopped and closed one eye… Then the other. “Did you know there are no muscles in your fingers? No? Shocking! Well… you do now. Ok, I think I have an option.” Skipping up a ladder and over a short walkway Bernie grabbed without even looking and popped down the ladder, coming to stop behind the counter.
“Ok, lets see if this one causes less destruction! One can only hope.”
Willow Wood, Unicorn Hair Core, 11.25 in, Springy
Willow:
Willow is an uncommon wand wood with healing power, and I have noted that the ideal owner for a willow wand often has some (usually unwarranted) insecurity, however well they may try and hide it. While many confident customers insist on trying a willow wand (attracted by their handsome appearance and well-founded reputation for enabling advanced, non-verbal magic) my willow wands have consistently selected those of greatest potential, rather than those who feel they have little to learn. It has always been a proverb in my family that he who has furthest to travel will go fastest with willow.
Unicorn Hair:
Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard.
Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled, meaning that the hair may 'die' and need replacing.

If you love this combo, great! If you like one piece of your wand (core, wood, flexibility, etc.) Put that at the bottom of your next post in an OOC message. I will keep that the same for the next option. Or, I can come up with an entirely new wand. UP TO YOU!
The woman’s reaction to being sprayed in the face was, admittedly, kind of funny and Alice had to stifle a laugh by placing her hand over her mouth. She watched as the woman snatched the wand back and carefully put it back in the box, then discarded it under the NOPE sign. She laughed again and then the woman was looking at her again, as if measuring her. What a curious woman.
Once she had spoken, the woman was off again – this time up a ladder. Alice watched her bright orange hair as she moved, wondering if this one would be the right one or if maybe she’d destroy the whole shop if it was absolutely not.
The woman opened the box and Alice stepped forward, biting her lip. Her eyes widened. It was beautiful. “There’s no way this one will work,” she said, laughing slightly, though she picked it up gingerly anyways.
She felt a warmth spread in her chest, something unlike she had never felt before and couldn’t even describe if she was forced to. She looked at it, not even needing to give it a try. But she did anyways, because after the last wand – she had to see for herself that this one was right.
When she flicked the wand into the air above her, the tiniest of movements, she felt it work. She grinned as snow began falling on her. It was summer, it was not time for snow, and yet it was snowing in the wand shop.
“Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!” she exclaimed and jumped at the woman, hugging her tightly, before looking up again. She loved snow. “I have to tell Ever!” she exclaimed and jumped again, then ran out of the shop, too excited to even show proper manners by not squealing with excitement.
“Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!” Bernie smiled at the hug. She loved helping people find their wand! Before the young girl went running out she had some important details to explain.
“OH GOOD FUN! We have a winner!” Bernie sings, dancing a jig behind the counter. “That is fantastic! And you only destroyed a small portion of my shop. Thanks for that, I appreciate the restraint.”
Before the young girl went running out she had some important details to explain.
Flitting around behind the counter, mumbling to herself while pulling a few things out here and there. “Ok, ARE YOU LISTENING?!” Green eyes wide, red hair fluffed out with her excursion. “I hope you are…” She said slowly, looking at the student carefully. “Here are the things you will need. FIRST!” She said with a flourish, “is your wand holster. You may strap it to your leg, or arm, sew it into clothing or use a pocket on the inside of your robes. DO NOT EVER! Put it in your back pocket. No No No. That's how little Tommy blew off a butt cheek. Yes he did. Big tadoo.” She trailed off, shaking her head at the poor unfortunate state of little Tommy.
“NEXT! Here is a jar of polish and a rag. Keep. Your. Wand. CLEAN! Do not make me say it again. It is important. And don’t even get me started on using it to pick your nose or itch your ear.” Wide green eyes met those of the student, her hands went up over her head, miming an explosion, “Boom!”
“AND THIRD! Wait… What's the third thing… umm, OH YES! Silly me. Have fun dear. Be good at Hogwarts, eat your veggies and stay away from the East Wing, I hear it’s haunted.” She gave Alice a knowing smile, as the young girl went running out of the shop. As her back turned to the door, a small green leggy creature could be seen hanging on to her hat. Little Clyde, watching over his favorite human.
