Personality & House Preference

Personality:
Rion is a perpetual idealist, possessing an unshakeable belief that the world is far larger and more welcoming than he was led to believe. He carries himself with a quiet, wide-eyed wonder, approaching the vibrant energy of the 1920s not with suspicion, but with a deep yearning to belong to it. He is a boy who dreams of grand lineages and bustling dinner tables, fueled by a "hungry" spirit that is constantly seeking out the "extraordinary" in everyday life.

Because he spent his formative years in a very limited social circle, Rion is notably shy and socially unpolished. He is an expert at observing from the sidelines, often absorbing the details of a conversation before he dares to join it. In the fast-paced, theatrical atmosphere of Hogwarts, this can manifest as a charming, if sometimes clumsy, earnestness. He lacks the practiced "cool" of the jazz-age youth, often coming across as a "country mouse" who is trying, with great sincerity, to learn the complex language of friendship and etiquette in real-time.

Beneath his soft-spoken exterior lies a core of quiet defiance. Rion is not a passive character; he is a seeker. He is incredibly self-reliant and possesses a practical, grounded competence that keeps him steady when the world becomes overwhelming. He views his life as a story that has only just begun to be written, and he is determined to ensure that the next chapters are defined by discovery and connection rather than the shadows of the past.

History:
Ruth Milton was a Muggle-born witch who attended Hogwarts at the turn of the century. During her final years at school, she fell into a whirlwind romance with a pure-blood classmate; a relationship that ended abruptly when she became pregnant. Rejected by her lover's family and humiliated by a society that viewed her as a scandal to be erased, Ruth retreated from the wizarding world entirely.

She chose a hermetic existence on the desolate coast of Minster, where the salt air and isolation served as a shield against her past. For eleven years, she raised her son alone, using only the most practical, "kitchen-style" magic to meet their needs, and instilling in him a sense that the magical world was a place of cruelty rather than wonder. She gave him the grand, ancient name Caesarion, the name of a lost heir who would never see his throne, perhaps as a final and bitter tribute to the man who abandoned them.

Growing up, Rion felt the weight of his mother’s heartbreak like a physical cage. While Ruth found safety in the silence of the coast, Rion interpreted their life as being trapped. He spent his childhood as an observer of the sea and his mother’s moods, developing a secret curiosity about the world beyond the dunes.

When his Hogwarts letter arrived, it was the first time Rion saw a path out of the shadows. Despite his mother’s cynical warnings and her fear of the society that had cast her out, Rion pressured her to let him attend. Ruth ultimately relented, re-entering the wizarding society she loathed to secure the funds for his tuition.

Rion arrives at Hogwarts with a heavy burden of guilt for leaving his mother alone. However, beneath that guilt is also a relentless idealist. He is eager to trade the brine of Minster for the jazz-age energy of the wizarding world, using the nickname "Rion" to hide the controversial name his mother gave him while he begins his true mission: observing the older families and searching for any clue that might lead him to the father he has never known.

House Preference:
Ravenclaw, Gryfindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin

Year Preference:
Starting first year

Prompt Response:
The Great Hall was a cathedral of noise that morning, a dizzying whirlwind of clinking silver and the frantic rustle of the Daily Prophet. Rion kept his eyes mostly on his porridge, trying to absorb the scale of the room without appearing to stare. It was a mission of quiet observation until a shadow fell across his table, and a fourth-year student leaned into his space and started making fun of Rion's upbringing in a rural fishing village.

Rion felt the familiar, hot prickle of shyness crawl up his neck. His first instinct was to retreat into the silence. He could say nothing and wait for the boy to get bored. He could practically hear his mother’s voice in his head, warning him that the wizarding world was a place of cruel hierarchies. But as he looked at the older boy’s polished cufflink, he was reminded of why he had fought to be here.

He set his spoon down with careful, trembling precision and looked up, meeting the older boy's eyes. And gave a sharp retort. "Honest, hearing you talk reminds me of home. The gulls were always quite loud and had very little to say. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that some students here have the same habit."

He felt accomplished standing up for himself in this way; it was a quiet victory over the fear his mother had cultivated for years. He was never going to let himself be made less than by cruel remarks, not when he had come so far to find a life that was finally his own.
