The Hospital Wing
Advancement Guide
✾
Overview
By volunteering in the hospital wing, students can advance through the school's medical ranks and learn increasingly difficult healing spells they would otherwise be unable to cast. Five tiers of spells can be unlocked, and this is done through volunteering. For each year that a student offers their services, it is assumed that they have picked up these healing essentials.
Whether your character has an interest in healing or just some free time on their hands, the hospital wing is a great activity to help them develop this area of their magic.
Once you have passed a year, a medical section will be added to your willow tree with all the new spells your character can cast both in and outside of the hospital wing.
Similarly, those working within the apothecary and greenhouses are capable of moving through the ranks, albeit in different capacities.
When considering the years of service, the student is able to effectively and efficiently cast anything in the year below the one they are currently in. They are able to attempt spells of the new service year but are not yet proficient to the point of certainty. At the end of that year, they will be considered proficient and the spells will be added to their tree.
Example: Rae is a fourth year. At the time of sign-up, she would've had three previous years of experience under her belt. This makes her a newly minted "Adept Nurse" (4th year of service), however it is understood she hasn't yet learned many things for this new year. It makes sense then that she still has issues with the "Adept" spells. She may attempt them and have some success, but nothing is guaranteed, and failure is still expected. At the end of her fourth year, she will have "passed" her fourth year of hospital wing service. At this time, the spells will be added to her willow, and she will no longer have issues casting them as she moves up to the next rank of "Specialist" in the term after.
In the case of first-year volunteers, they may RP attempting the spells in Tier 1 and are even free to succeed from time to time! But, largely, they are not and should not be played as proficient and infallible as this is only their first year on the wing, and there's much to learn.
The tiers do not coincide with the year of your student. The clock starts from the time they start. This means that it is very possible for a 6th year student to be at only Tier 2 if they began volunteering in their 4th year.
