Personality & House Preference

Personality:
Morgan has always walked to the beat of her own drum. As a young child, she was left home quite often while her mum spent most of her time working, which made her very independent. She had no clue who her father was and did not meet him until she was eleven. This developed a chasm between her and her mum, and tossed her closer to her dad. Morgan is the type to defend her friends, and has been known to jump into fights at a moment’s notice. When her father told her that her baby brother Blob was coming, she momentarily lost sight of herself, however this proved to be a huge step in her relationship with her father.

Her mum died before she entered her second year, and Morgan fell into a cycle of dealing with it by not dealing with it. She kept a smile on her face, still did crazy things (perhaps even more), and refused to fully grieve.

She loves Quidditch and her toad David who she found at the Black Lake her first year at Hogwarts. Morgan has a very active imagination and she has been known to be extremely reckless, much to her father’s dismay.

History:
Morgan Barlowe grew up in the heart of London, always aware of her mother's magical background but also never seeing a whole lot of it. Caroline Dobbs did always use magic for menial things, like laundry and dishes, but other than that there wasn't much. When she was really young, she remembered her mum being a lot more attentive than she was years later, something that Morgan attributed to her mother's busy career as a muggle soliciter.
Morgan didn't know much about her father; she knew his name and she knew that he was not in her life and that was it. Caroline didn't like answering questions regarding the man she had attended Hogwarts with so long ago, so eventually the girl stopped asking.

Things began changing when Morgan turned eleven; her mother spoke to her more about Hogwarts, the school that she would be attending in the fall. Morgan felt a bit overwhelmed about that, knowing that she didn't have nearly as much experience with magic as others her age probably did. Not only had Hogwarts become a more popular topic, but so was her father.

Caroline finally told her that he had been living abroad for most of her life, but that he had returned to London.

So, she met him. It was awkward, and while the girl was hesitant to get close to the man, she could already feel some sort of connection with him. It was strange - not something she had imagined she'd feel, and yet it gave her hope that he may be able to help her get to know her mum better.

Unfortunately though, while Morgan processed the news of having a father and then having a baby brother, her mum died. This threw her into a spiral of recklessness that saw her with an endless amount of detentions. She’d been messy when she first met Maddox, but he had slowly, somehow, made her more aware of her surroundings and now as a third year, she may be heading more in the right direction.

House Preference:
ROAR! (Gryffindor, duh)

Year Preference:
Third

Prompt Response:
“Excuse me, Barlowe, but your toad is in the cereal.”

Morgan looked up from her bowl, her eyes settling on the fourth year on the other side of the table. She rolled her eyes and shook her head. “No he isn’t, he wouldn’t do that. He knows not to get on the table. Not like your damn cat,” she spat back, probably with more vitriol than she had meant to.

Did she look for David? No. She was positive that she was right.

What was it her dad had told her about toads? She couldn’t remember, if she were honest, because he told her so many things about so many creatures, she couldn’t get it straight. And she was sure that toads did not have pointy teeth, so she wasn’t sure what he’d said.

“Barlowe, your stupid toad is swimming in the cereal. That’s disgusting. Don’t they carry diseases or something?”

Morgan shook her head, narrowing her eyes a bit, still refusing to look where the other student was pointing. Is that what he had told her? Maybe. Perhaps she ought to pay more attention…

“I told you that David would not do that. He knows the difference between cereal and the Black Lake,” she said, returning to her own food. She looked down, now wondering where her amphibian had hopped off to. But she wasn’t one to back down and admit that she was wrong.

“Barlowe!”

Morgan slammed her spoon down on the table and glared at the other person – who had dared to toss a piece of cereal at her head. “What do you want?!” she yelled, feeling anger welling up inside her. That feeling was more familiar now ever since her mum died. No longer did she feel the childish emotions of her preteen self.

No, her anger was real now.

“I said to get your damn toad out of the cereal. We can’t eat it now.”

Morgan rolled her eyes so hard you could practically hear them, and then she finally looked over at the cereal. Her mouth dropped open slightly and her face grew red. There, within the cereal, was her beloved toad David. What the hell did he think he was doing?

“Well if we can’t eat it now, then why does it matter if he’s swimmin’ in it? He’s happy. Leave him alone,” she spat back, pulling the bowl closer to her as if to protect him from the mean boy who was being rude.

Feeling more eyes on her, Morgan looked around, hugging the bowl to her. “What do you think y’all are lookin’ at?” she snapped.
