...Previously At Hogwarts
The magical world reels from the aftermath of a quiet rebellion. Former Hogwarts Headmaster Nicholas Halloway, once praised for his progressive ideals, now stands as a cautionary tale—a Muggleborn visionary turned extremist whose radical agenda nearly breached the Statute of Secrecy itself.
Over the past decade, Halloway infiltrated the highest levels of magical education, dismantling protective enchantments and preparing to welcome Muggle students into Hogwarts under the Ministry’s nose. With the conspiracy exposed just weeks before his plan came to fruition, arrests have followed swiftly. His allies in education and government are under scrutiny, and the wizarding public is divided—some appalled, others quietly sympathetic.
The Ministry is scrambling to reassert control. Investigations are ongoing. Ancient wards are being reforged, legislation reviewed, and security tightened across Britain’s magical institutions. Hogwarts, now under new leadership, remains under strict Ministry watch.
Trust is shaken. Loyalties are questioned. And as the dust settles, one thing is certain: the line between progress and rebellion has never felt thinner.

...Now Playing
The board of governors had been in meetings for weeks trying to appease the worried parents. House calls were made, conferences were had, letters were sent, but still. The registration for students was alarmingly low.
A new Head Mistress and Deputy had been hired, both ready to come in and regain the trust of the magical families that sent their kids to learn. With the massive change in leadership, a lot of positions are open for hiring. It was going to be a tough year, but they were up for the challenge.
Ministry personnel as well as castle staff were constantly working to locate where the magical wards had been tampered with. A number of issues had already been fixed.
The Gryffindor common room had been unlocked to all for roughly a week, allowing anyone in, no matter their house of password. Thankfully, this took place while school was on break, but it made them wary of the other houses' security.
As the new staff moved in over the summer, there were many magical mishaps to contend with. Moving staircases that stopped moving, or completely vanished all together. Thankfully with a lot of hard work, a good number of issues had been fixed, but everyday new problems cropped up that needed to be dealt with. As word got out about the state of the castle, many parents chose to keep their students home. The train to Hogwarts was much quieter at the start of term, something that hadn’t been a problem since the active years of the war.
As the year progressed, students and staff began trickling in, filling the halls and dorms more and more. Maybe, one day soon, the halls would be loud again, the classrooms would be full and the random explosions around the castle would cease as the wards continued to be fixed.

September
1st: Kitchen Magic: The magic is down. No cooking of any kind. Bag lunches for the feast and next full day.
14th: Magic in the Hospital Wing hiccups. At first the healer is forced to do everything the muggle way. Then the dumbwaiter goes crazy, the lumos orbs pop (darkness in the wing), the storage cupboards vomit supplies and try to eat the healer. Healer Blustwick lasts two days with the craziness and quits in a fit, tears, hands flailing, band aids stuck all over her apron.

...Next Up At Hogwarts
The kitchens were now running smoothly, cranking out roasts, sweets, sides and a delicious English breakfast. Quite honestly, the Elves were going for gold everyday. And thankfully, no sandwiches had been seen in the Great Hall since. Sandwichgate 1920 would make history in the castle, mark my words.
It seemed that with the added magic in the castle and patients flowing into the Hospital Wing daily, they had triggered their next round of Magical Mischief. As the magic use in the infirmary began increasing, strange things started going wrong.
- All the plants in the hospital greenhouse withered and died.
- Potions went bad in the storage cupboard. Bad smells, open the bottle and putrid fumes come out, etc.
- The storage cupboards lock, then fly open, then toss stuff out, then lock, then try and eat a volunteer, etc.
- The dumbwaiter that lowers to the castle greenhouses stops working, won’t control its speed, malfunctions, tosses plants out, etc.
- The magic in the ward is temperamental. A simple spell for water can turn into a fire hose.
- During the hiccup, magic is less powerful (IE: Lumos is dim not bright), then surges and the Lumos orbs that light up the wing pop and explode, leaving them in darkness.
- There is no rhyme or reason. One minute things are fine, then crazy, then fine, then crazy.
- There was talk of moving the Hospital Wing to a temporary location until the magic could be sorted out, but it was decided that no area of the Hospital is safe, so they stay where the supplies are easily accessible.
The Head Healer loses it, can’t handle the insanity, comes to leadership in a fit and quits. With the Healer now gone and the Headmistress working to find a replacement, the need arises for student workers. Up to this point, students were able to come in and help with things as they had time: making mild potions, organizing, working the greenhouse, cheering up the patients and giving low level healing care. With the Healer MIA, the staff decides to enlist the students that desire to volunteer on a more structured basis. Opening four position:
- Nurse
- Alchemist
- Greenhouse Attendant
- Candy Striper
**During this time, there is always an adult in the Hospital Wing working on the wards. There is constant supervision, but the students are responsible for the basics of running the wing.

...But Wait! There’s More!
Weeks had passed since the last magical mishap, causing the castle to relax into a false sense of security. The Hospital Wing was running smoothly with a new Head Nurse and a host of eager students. On a seemingly normal December day, all movement came to a screeching halt while students traveled from one class to the next.
The moving staircases, a staple of magical engineering, suddenly stopped moving, causing chaos to ring out over the castle. Students were stuck, not able to get to classes, the upper floors completely cut off from the lower. Professors and staff were forced to levitate students to their floors, issue brooms to those that were able to fly without hitting a wall, and attempt to maintain control in an increasingly chaotic environment.
((OOC: Time for some mayhem. All moving staircases in the castle are affected, making it impossible to get from one floor to another easily. If they were moving prior to the halt, at least one end is now hovering in space not connected to a floor. MAKE IT FUN! You can check this post HERE for help getting to where you need to go, or make your own post if you’d like. You can also use an NPC Staff member to help. There will be more plot fun in the days to come, so subscribe to this thread for updates!))
