Hospital Wing: Healing Spells
#1
Hospital Wing: Healing Spells

The following are all site canon spells used in the pursuit of healing. Only those who have earned these spells are permitted to use them, as they are rewards for passing the hospital wing. In the event the spell is also already found on the willow, you can already use this spell. If you own it here but not on your willow, you can still use it. A record of the spells you have unlocked will be kept separately in your willow branch. After passing the hospital wing, simply add the following when claiming your other points:

Code:
[*]Pass the hospital wing: Tier [insert number for the tier passed. If you spent the year in Tier 1, you write 1 as you have now passed it. If you finished Tier 4, you put 4 as you have now passed it]

Novice:
  • Tergeo (General Cleaning Charm) – Absorbs and cleans minor messes like blood or other fluids. This Can be used on patients who come in covered in dirt or other debris before beginning treatment. This spell can also be used to clean necessary hospital equipment.

  • Oxygenero (Oxygen Support Charm) – Provides a controlled stream of oxygen. Typically used when a patient comes in complaining of difficulty breathing or after a period of oxygen deprivation, such as a new drowning.

  • Thermoscopio (Temperature Detection Charm) – Monitors patient temperature. This spell can detect whether a patient has a fever or has a low core temperature and is in need of warming up. In the case of fevers, the caster's wand will grow warm. In the case of too-low temperatures, the caster's wand will take on a chill.

  • Cordis Mensura (Heart Rate Charm) – Reads rhythm, speed, regularity of heartbeat. The sound of the patient's heart beating will be produced through the tip of the wand at a volume audible enough to be heard by the caster and often the patient if standing close enough.

Junior:
  • Anapneo (Airway Clearing Charm) – Removes obstacles that are blocking the airway. Useful when a patient presents at the hospital wing with signs of choking and other such respiratory distress.

  • Cheering Charm – Used carefully in small doses to lift patient spirits. Some patients may appear melancholic during treatment or pessimistic about their outcomes. Often this is within normal behaviour; however, if they seem particularly disturbed or despondent, this charm may be employed. Use sparingly.

  • Bronchiosolvo (Bronchial Relief Charm) – Temporarily eases constricted breathing. Not to be confused with the charm for eradicating choking. This is more useful, not when there is a physical blockage, but in the case of patients in respiratory distress due to mild to moderate inflammation of the lungs and muscles of the chest. This spell's effects work for up to an hour and may need to be reapplied depending on the patient's condition.

  • Episkey – Heals minor cuts, bruises, and nosebleeds. This is a standard healing spell that can stop minor bleeding and take care of less consequential injuries. If wounds are deep or there is significant blood loss, this spell will not be effective.

  • Lenire (Anti-Inflammatory I) – Relieves one symptom (swelling, redness, pain, heat). Useful for patients who come in with few or one symptom/uncomplicated cases. Relief typically lasts for an hour; however, more seasoned applications of the spell have been shown to allow relief to last for two.

  • Invenio Dulcis (Blood Sugar Charm) – Detects glycemic issues. This charm is used for detecting whether a patient is experiencing low sugar in their blood, whether due to chronic illnesses or other yet to be diagnosed reasons.

  • Pressura Sanguinis (Blood Pressure Charm) – A spell used for discovering a patient's blood pressure. The numbers appear briefly atop the patient's forehead and must be read and recorded quickly, as they will vanish within a minute of being cast.

Apprentice:
  • Reparifors – This is a versatile transfiguration spell when used for healing. It can cure mild to moderate poisoning, minor paralysis, and mild to moderate overexposure to spells. It is important to note that this is not a be-all end-all cure, as it is unable to effectively cure more persistent or severe cases of ailments and maladies.

  • Mobilicorpus – This spell is used for the levitation of unconscious/injured patients. This spell should be used with caution, as poor concentration can lead to dropping and further injuring a patient. This spell is not recommended for long-distance transportation.

  • Caput Bulla (Bubble-Head Charm) – Creates a bubble of breathable air for the caster or target; skilled casters can oxygenate this bubble to provide a steadier flow of continuous oxygen. This is preferred over simpler oxygenating spells for its concentrated power in more severe cases.

  • Tessutovero (Tissue Diagnostic Charm) – This is a truly versatile and indispensable charm. It reveals the presence of broken bones, clots, tissue damage, or inflammation within the target's body. The wand is drawn across the affected area. If any of these are present, the caster's wand grows warm and the area glows a pale red for no longer than a few seconds. The worse the damage, the darker the red. If no such injuries are present, there will be no reaction to the spell.

  • Thermoequilibris (Temperature Regulation Charm) – This charm is used in cases where patients are unable to regulate their temperature on their own. If a fever is present, this can help to lower their temperature. If the patient is too cold/experiencing hypothermic symptoms, this spell can help to warm them up. The effects only last for about an hour and may need to be reapplied depending on the condition of the patient.

  • Tergeo Sanitas (Sterilising Drain Charm) – An advanced version of Tergeo, this charm not only cleans an area of dirt and debris but also disinfects wounds/cuts in the process. This is the preferred cleaning charm when cuts and wounds are present for its ability to help prevent infection.

Adept:
  • Rennervate – Revives unconscious patients (fainting, stuns). Depending on the cause of the fainting/stunning, it may take up to 3 minutes for the spell's effects to take hold. If after 15 minutes, the patient has not been revived, attempt the spell only once more before seeking professional medical assistance. Do not attempt the spell a third time.

  • Brackium Emendo – Repairs broken bones. This charm should only be used for clean/relatively clean breaks. In the case of bone shattering, professional medical assistance should be sought after the pain relief is administered to the patient. Do not attempt on shattered bones. Do not attempt on missing bones.

  • Cordis Pello (Cardiac Revival Charm) – Magical defibrillation. This spell should be handled carefully and, where possible, the cause of the fainting/stunning should first be ascertained to ensure further damage. The resident school nurse should be present/give approval before such a spell is used on anyone in the wing.

  • Lenire Majoris (Anti-Inflammatory II) – Suppresses two symptoms simultaneously (swelling, redness, pain, heat). This spell is useful for patients who come in with multiple symptoms or more complicated ailments. Relief typically lasts for 3 hours; however, more seasoned applications of the spell have been shown to allow relief to last for 7 hours.

  • Tessutovero Acutus (Advanced Tissue Scan) – Where the weaker version of this spell picks up general inflammation and damage as well as obvious breakages, this amplified version picks up layered injuries and more subtle internal damage that may otherwise be missed. The wand is drawn across the affected area. If any of these are present, the caster's wand grows warm and the area glows a pale red for no longer than a few seconds. The worse the damage, the darker the red. If no such injuries are present, there will be no reaction to the spell.

Specialist:
  • Vulnera Sanentur – This is an advanced healing spell meant specifically for deep cuts and gashes. It requires careful precision as misfires can end up causing further injury. While episkey will close and sanitise smaller and shallower cuts, this is the go-to when major injury and significant bleeding have occurred.

  • Cordis Vita (Life Heart Charm) – Stabilises arrhythmia/prevents relapse. This is a complicated spell that requires interaction with a patient's heart. As such, it should only be used as a last resort and only under the supervision of the school-appointed nurse. Multiple applications of this charm within a short period of time are not recommended and should generally be avoided.

  • Lenire Perpetua (Anti-Inflammatory III) – Suppresses all inflammatory signs for up to 24 hours. This spell will alleviate all symptoms, allowing the patient relief while they recover. As symptoms are often indicators of issues within the body, the source of the symptoms should first be verified so treatment may be administered in their absence.

  • Tessutovero Perfectus (Master Scan) – This spell is to be used for the most difficult cases. It reveals hidden injuries/abnormalities and is useful in cases where a patient complains of issues, but lighter diagnostic spells are unable to uncover any causes. The wand is drawn across the affected area. If any of these are present, the caster's wand grows warm and the area glows a pale red for no longer than a few seconds. The worse the damage, the darker the red. If no such injuries are present, there will be no reaction to the spell. The intrusive nature of this spell causes moderate to high discomfort in patients and should only be used as a last resort, such as in the case of an obvious injury/complaint that is otherwise undetectable.

  • Caput Bulla Maxima (Enhanced Bubble-Head) – The bubble of oxygen can be extended to multiple patients. This spell is often only required in the case of emergencies and incidents that involve multiple patients being brought in at once with similar, moderate to severe respiratory complaints. Patient beds may need to be pushed closer together depending on the range of the caster's ability when employing this spell.
