Getting Started

Established in 2025, KnockturnBound.net is the product of friends writing collaboratively as early as 2005 - two decades of storytelling, world-building, and the kind of long-form character drama that keeps you up at 3am to get out just one...more...post.

We are a super welcoming community of nerds from all walks of life, passionate about immersive writing, layered lore, and the chaos of deeply flawed magical people and political games gone sideways.

We adore new faces, old friends, and dynamic character connections. Whether you’re a seasoned plot schemer or just dipping your quill into our world, you’re welcome here.

The Wizarding World, 1921.

The magical world reels from the aftermath of a quiet rebellion. Former Hogwarts Headmaster Nicholas Halloway, once praised for his progressive ideals, now stands as a cautionary tale—a Muggleborn visionary turned extremist whose radical agenda nearly breached the Statute of Secrecy itself.

Over the past decade, Halloway infiltrated the highest levels of magical education, dismantling protective enchantments and preparing to welcome Muggle students into Hogwarts under the Ministry’s nose. With the conspiracy exposed just weeks before his plan came to fruition, arrests have followed swiftly. His allies in education and government are under scrutiny, and the wizarding public is divided—some appalled, others quietly sympathetic.

The Ministry is scrambling to reassert control. Investigations are ongoing. Ancient wards are being reforged, legislation reviewed, and security tightened across Britain’s magical institutions. Hogwarts, now under new leadership, remains under strict Ministry watch.

Trust is shaken. Loyalties are questioned. And as the dust settles, one thing is certain: the line between progress and rebellion has never felt thinner.

The aftermath of Halloway’s exposure was quickly overshadowed by a crisis at Hogwarts itself.

On March 12, 1921, the school carnival descended into chaos when dark magic overwhelmed protective wards, releasing magical creatures and creating panic among students. During the upheaval, three students were abducted and taken to the Dark Tower by Astronomy professor Thayer, a devoted follower of Halloway.

Acting as part of Halloway’s cult, Thayer sought to pressure the Ministry into releasing the former Headmaster. In the tower, the students endured psychological and magical torment, including Imperius and Cruciatus curses, while Hogwarts staff scrambled to regain control.

Intervention by Professors Maddox Barlowe, Gideon Blackwood, Headmistress Ruby Haswell, and Minister of Magic Wylder Merrow led to Thayer’s death, the students’ rescue, and the securing of both the Great Hall and the Dark Tower. Though Hogwarts was stabilized and wards reinforced, the trauma of the events left the school on high alert.

The repercussions of the carnival and Dark Tower ordeal ripple across the Wizarding World. While the Ministry reels from the outrage of Thayer's betrayal and the lack of foresight that led to such a horrific event, Hogwarts under Haswell’s leadership remains under strict observation, and the balance between order and vigilance is fragile.

The rescued students try to move forward with their lives, while the upcoming Wizengamot trials of Barlowe, Haswell, Blackwood, and Merrow over Thayer’s death are expected to examine the decisions made during the crisis.

Thayer’s actions serve as a stark warning: even after the fall of a radical leader, loyal followers can commit acts of terror in their name, and the Wizarding World must remain vigilant against the lingering threat of cult-like devotion.

Our out-of-character calendar is divided into three distinct IC years per real-life year. Yes, we live fast. And dramatically.
  • Year One (IC Sept Y1 – Aug Y2): OOC January – April
  • Year Two (IC Sept Y2 – Aug Y3): OOC May – August
  • Year Three (IC Sept Y3 – Aug Y4): OOC September – December
April, August, and December are our breezy “summer months” where applications open across all boards and plot-lines tend to explode.

Where to Start
We understand how overwhelming joining a site can be, however we have tried to be as concise as possible with the information we compiled.

Site Rules - Yeah, yeah, I know... boring. But we all have to start somewhere, right? And these are actually not that bad!

Site Rating - We are proudly 18+ only, but we do still have some guidelines. Be sure to check them out.

Registration Agreement - Yeah, you read them when you signed up, didn't you? Well, I am linking them here too just to be sure you saw them. And it can be nice to reference every once in a while!

Established Families - To prevent any accidental same-names, please check out our listing of families already in play. You may also contact the associated person to see about joining.

Whomping Willow Exchange - Here on KB, we are using a Skill Tree that we have named the Whomping Willow. At the end of each term, during the summer month (April, August, or December), you are able to spend galleons (ʛ) that you earn with your activity on site. If you do not request a WWE, you will not be able to use magic. So be sure you read all of the information thoroughly.

Special Requests - Before applying, check here to make sure you don't need a special request for something! We try to respond within 72 hours to any and all requests made.

Lexicon - This is Knockturn Bound's wiki. This is a constant work-in-progress.

And now you apply!

While waiting, if you have not already, please join our Discord server.
