Personality & House Preference

Personality:
Vinnie is a loud, outgoing kid who always goes out of his way to meet people and put himself in new situations. He often takes charge in social situations and dives into things headfirst. Usually he comes off as confident regardless of his actual skill level. He’ll cast a spell he’s never seen before or try to lead the way through an unfamiliar maze. This trait has a tendency to lead to embarrassments or getting injured. He also has a penchant for getting himself and his friends into trouble.

Driven by constant restlessness, Vinnie can rarely handle sitting still for long. He gets bored easily and itches to do something fun, which sometimes leads to reckless and rule-breaking ideas. At his core he is a thrill-seeker. He’s also uncomfortable with silence. Used to having a large family around, Vinnie is accustomed to noise and other people, and is terrible at being alone. For all his troublemaking and disruptiveness, he is a generally good kid and would rarely be malicious.

History:
Vinnie was born in London, England to Evan and Eleanor Folwell. As the middle of five children, he was always fighting for attention growing up. His older sister Ada was the bossy, no-nonsense one with an affinity for Quidditch, his older brother Claude the green-thumbed herbology prodigy, and Vinnie - well, Vinnie was mostly known for being a huge disruption. He was always a loud and rambunctious kid, getting into trouble one moment and befriending a stranger the next, never sitting still for longer than a few moments at a time.

Vinnie grew up around casual everyday magic, his mother and father both having attended Hogwarts in their own day. He was also taken along with them to work on a few occasions, and saw his mother adjust a floating camera during an interview, or his father shipping off Chizpurfle fangs to various apothecaries. Vinnie grew familiar with the muggle world too, as his parents were too busy for homeschooling and sent him and his siblings to a Church of England Muggle day school until age 11, where they learnt reading, writing, and arithmetic.

As a result, Vinnie became dimly aware of something hanging overhead for many Muggle students. The Great War began when he was five years old and ended when he was nine. Though some witches and wizards did get involved, Vinnie’s parents were disinterested. They considered it not their war, and not their problem. Something about that struck Vinnie, especially after spending so much time with Muggles and hearing them worry about their fathers or uncles or brothers.

Vinnie’s brother Henry was born only a year after him, and Dora two years later than that. For the most part Henry preferred the company of his Muggle friends to his family and was often out of the house. Dora was the youngest and their parents’ favorite, whose wrongdoings were often overlooked. Vinnie got along with all four of his siblings growing up, though he was closer to some than others, and dragged Henry into trouble most often. Between the five of them, the house was always loud and lively.

Vinnie’s first major incident of accidental magic happened when he was bored in school. While he was spacing out and wishing something - anything - would happen, the chalk up front began to dance on its own, as other six year-olds stared on in amazement. Obliviators had to be brought in afterwards to wipe memories and rectify the situation. Vinnie had been pleased at first by having done magic, but found it a bit creepy when his friends all drew a blank afterwards.

Shortly before going off to Hogwarts, Vinnie overheard a conversation between his parents and some of his father’s coworkers. They spoke of former Headmaster Nicholas Halloway and what he had been arrested for. Vinnie thought of his own schooling, and wondered if it would really be so bad if Muggles were allowed into Hogwarts after all. He didn’t voice the thought, however - it seemed like serious adult business, and his parents were unlikely to agree.

For the most part, Vinnie was excited to go off to Hogwarts and leave everything behind. He’d heard from his older siblings about Quidditch and moving staircases and the Forbidden Forest, and couldn’t wait to be somewhere so cool. His older brother joked about how many more owls home they were likely to get now that Vinnie was starting at Hogwarts.

House Preference:

Year Preference:

Prompt Response:
I didn’t mean to. Constance’s voice shook, her face ashen. She held something behind her back that Vinnie couldn't quite make out, though it appeared to be tall and at least partially made of wood. I just got so angry, I couldn’t help it -

“What did you do?” Vinnie interrupted, half concerned and half amused. His friend had a habit of working herself into a panic over everything from leaving the Common Room after curfew to her Cure for Boils being slightly too dark. That was an affliction Vinnie didn’t suffer from. To hear his mother tell it, he could do with a little more anxiety over potions and late-night adventures.

Keep your voice down, Constance hissed. You’re going to get us both in trouble. With a wary glance in either direction, she pulled out the thing she’d hidden behind her back. It was the Slytherin star player’s broomstick, a shiny new Silver Arrow.

Vinnie grinned. “Didn’t know you had it in you,” he said. If looks could kill, the one Constance fixed him with would have put him six feet under. As it was, Vinnie’s amusement didn’t falter. “I don’t see what the big deal is,” he told her airily. “He’s a prick. Serves him right. He’s been waving that new model around bragging for weeks. And you heard what he said in class.”

Constance’s face darkened. The Slytherin boy had gone on and on about halfbloods and muggleborns just not having the same affinity for flying as purebloods. Vinnie had wanted to hex him, and only been prevented from doing so by stern looks from his House’s prefects.

“I can’t get another detention,” she said testily. She shifted the broom from one hand to the other, and cast another anxious glance over her shoulder. “It would be my tenth.”

Ah. That was a little more serious. Especially when more than half of those detentions had been Vinnie’s own fault. If she had never fallen in with him on that first train ride to Hogwarts, her record would be near-spotless by comparison. “Then we’ll put it back. Good as new,” Vinnie assured her. A thrill went through him at the thought of sneaking something back into the school’s broomshed. That sounded a lot more exciting than being on time to a History of Magic lecture.

“We can’t. That already know it’s missing, and our professor is standing right in front of the broomshed - and I left my jacket in there. They’ll find out it was me any second.” Constance chewed her lip. “You only have seven detentions,” she began haltingly. Do you think you could take the fall?” She stared at him as guiltily as though she’d asked him to jump in front of a moving train.

“You know me, Simmons,” Vinnie said, without hesitation. “I’m always happy to rack up another detention.” He winked, taking the broom from her grip and stepping out from behind the wall, so the broomshed came into view.

Vinnie had no intention of handing it back over to that Slytherin prick with an apology. Instead he climbed on top, though he’d had minimal experience on a broom, and took to the air. When he was nearly overhead of the Slytherin boy and their professor, he called out, “Up here!” The wind whipped through his hair as he zipped past with an uncontrollable grin. The detention afterwards would be more than worth it.
