Advice Booth #1 : Open - Oilibhéar Ó Coigligh - 02-21-2026 Advice Booth
Early in the Event When he thought the idea of the advice booth he thought it would be simple and he’d perhaps get to run some numbers and look at some cards. Both of which were activities he enjoyed more than unraveling the consequences of manning the kissing booth, or worse having to awkwardly run any of the other options. Seriously, of the options he got himself into what he thought was the best one. The catch was he underestimated the force of the Hufflepuff pulling in his customers. He heard her call to them. He gulped as he was advertised to be things such as a romantic, knowledgeable on other guys, or worse somehow property of the sixth year Hufflepuff outside. Admittedly, he didn’t even think she’d noticed him much besides asking him for homework help in the library constantly. Help he regularly gave her as it often was questions about subjects he was strong at. If he was knowledgeable on these things he’d have a clue if the girl outside the door was putting on a show, or was actually interested in him. Even worse he had no idea how he felt besides complemented. He couldn’t focus on that now. Someone entered the compartment and he heard the door shut. Though the compartment he was in stayed unchanged with just having the light from above shine in on the small table in front of him with parchment and a deck of tarot cards. Taking a deep breath he said “ It helps to be able to call people things. You can call me Owl, as I can already see you’ll be having a hoot of a good time today. “ Then he dipped his quill in ink on his parchment to take notes on whomever he was giving advice. He said “ Do you have a nickname you’d like me to use? “ He hoped it would be telling. Then he continued “ Is there anything you are looking for advice on? “ OOC: What you say isn’t really anonymous if Bear can recognize your voice, but he’ll try to disguise his own voice and won’t mention if he recognizes you (you can recognize it is Bear too if you want). Feel free to pick which pieces of dialogue you hear above from the girl. Also, at points during the event, the Advice Booth will have a sign saying, “On Break, Will Return in 30 Minutes.” So feel free to have seen that and come back. See the Advice Booth Description for dialogue that could have happened prior to you entering with the Hufflepuff outside ( have fun... she's an NPC... ) RE: Advice Booth #1 : Open - Matilda Nordstrom - 02-23-2026 Taking a break from the dance floor, Tilly took a spin around the event. It was truly depressing, seeing all the couples cuddled up, snogging, whispering sweet nothings in each other's ears. The kissing booth intrigued her, until she saw that Benji and Rae were manning it. She liked being alive, so she would stay away from those lips. Noticing the advice booth, Tilly stopped to ponder what might be said. What would she ask? She knew it was Bear inside, having been part of the planning process, but for most of the part goers it was a mystery. Deciding that a bit of advice would be nice, she stepped up to the Hufflepuff letting people in. Tilly sat down and waited for the instruction. “ It helps to be able to call people things. You can call me Owl, as I can already see you’ll be having a hoot of a good time today. “ She snickered. Owl, nice try. “ Do you have a nickname you’d like me to use? “ Thinking about her many MANY nicknames, she didn’t want to give one he would obviously know. It was more fun with the anonymity. “You can call me Ivy.” She said, a plant. How original. “ Is there anything you are looking for advice on? “ Before entering she had thought of something specific. Her Grandmother constantly on her mind since finding out about the arranged marriage. Might as well go that route. “Yes, My grandmother is trying to set me up with an arranged marriage. What would you suggest I do?” RE: Advice Booth #1 : Open - Oilibhéar Ó Coigligh - 02-23-2026 He blinked. Every suggestion he heard for that question prior to this moment were things he overheard that he was definitely not supposed to overhear. In the castle he overheard girls set out to embarrass the boys they were set up with enough to tarnish their reputation. He heard similar in the streets of knockturn alley. Though admittedly the suggestions that gained traction that he overheard were much worse and came from both sides. It was a risky proposition to be on either side of and most thought of the marriage. What most didn’t think about was the maneuvering to arrange the marriage and to make it actually happen. This was why he was thankful his family was definitely not prominent enough for him personally to have to worry about such - especially with his father dead. His first words were a pause for time on the question. He said “ First on the name you choose which could be telling for the answer to your question. There is a lot in the nicknames people choose for themselves. Ivy is a plant that clings to its environment growing where it wants to grow even if it isn’t always desired where it grows. What most don’t realize about Ivy is it doesn’t actually draw nutrients from the trees it grows on. Ivy maintains its independence and it’s grounding. “ Numbers would require him asking to many details for an event he hoped for his classmate was far out. A classmate that part of him was trying to guess whom was, with a bigger part of him trying to push any such guesses to the side. Though even cards would require more details. So he was unsure between his methods unless he actually decided to try for just advice. Either way he needed more information as he said “ What do you want to do? As the starting point of ones future is ones current desires even if there are larger forces attempting to override them. “ Hopefully that would get him more information still he took a fresh piece of parchment and put the question on top seeing if the phrasing gave him anything he could use from an arithmancy perspective. RE: Advice Booth #1 : Open - Matilda Nordstrom - 02-24-2026 “ First on the name you choose which could be telling for the answer to your question. “ Tilly nodded as he talked about Ivy. She knew this, about the nutrients and how it grew. She didn’t really think about the name when she chose it, but it did make sense. Tilly, as a young child gaining her magical abilities wasn’t wanted. Her father didn’t want to carry on the magical line, as a squib, he was bitter. But still, she grew. Thankfully her grandfather ultimately got custody, and now she thrived. “ What do you want to do? As the starting point of ones future is ones current desires even if there are larger forces attempting to override them. “ Before spouting off her answer Tilly… eh, Ivy, took some deep breaths. “I don’t want to be married to someone I don’t love. And my grandmother is evil, even mentioned marrying me off to a thirty year old man. Which is just disgusting. I want to find someone wo I connect with. Who I love and who loves me back, but she is more concerned with Pureblood society and what others think." Tilly could feel the color rising in her face. Whenever she got angry, the blood would rush to the surface of her skin, bringing on angry red blotches. It wasn’t pretty. Her scowl also told just how angry she was. Her grandfather was working on the issue, getting granny to stop the search, but this might even be beyond his reach. RE: Advice Booth #1 : Open - Oilibhéar Ó Coigligh - 02-28-2026 He heard deep breaths so that meant there was nervousness in whatever he was going to hear. A nervousness that made numbers a bad fit for this situation. Though he honestly thought arithmancy better for situations that involved larger groups of people. Running numbers on a proposed arranged marriage would require far too many numbers on the person and family he was talking to. That was if what he studied was actually correct. Which was debatable as most of the number runner predictors he knew were from Knockturn Alley and usually manipulated situations after to make the numbers look right, or claimed some sort of unknown factor. There were always unknown factors. He also had zero intention of asking about a thirty year old man being arranged to one of his classmates. However, his intention crumbled as he said “ Thirties isn’t a good sign. It means either something tarnished or a delay in being seen as financially ready in many higher class circles. “ Perhaps someday his statement would give her some ammo, but it certainly wasn’t advice or prediction as his booth advertised. So to the cards for the past. Death
He gulped then drew for the present. Justice
He gulped again then drew for the future. The Hierophant
Then he drew for what he was missing. The Magician
From the cards he could tell whomever he was giving advice to was at a crossroads in their life. The Death card made it clear. Though the cards that followed told of a less than predictable and smooth path forward. He said “ Though I think the cards can give you better advice than I can as they know far more than I. “ Even if he had a few guesses for whom he was talking to he certainly didn’t want know for sure whom it was - another thing that numbers would have likely needed. He said “ For the past the card drawn was Death which should never be taken literally. The card name pulls people immediately towards the literal when predictively when tied to a situation involving love it can indicate one is stuck in a situation that is no longer working for them. “ Then he paused looking between death and the other cards not mentioning he drew them all. RE: Advice Booth #1 : Open - Matilda Nordstrom - 02-28-2026 “ Thirties isn’t a good sign. It means either something tarnished or a delay in being seen as financially ready in many higher class circles. “ SEE! Even the stairs or cards or numbers agreed, the 30 year old was a no go. "Agreed." Tilly could hear the sound of shuffling and cards. Doing the tarot readings last term with the disastrous carnival, she could picture the actions being done behind the scenes. “ For the past the card drawn was Death which should never be taken literally. The card name pulls people immediately towards the literal when predictively when tied to a situation involving love it can indicate one is stuck in a situation that is no longer working for them. “ At the word Death, her stomach clenched, but he went on. And in her limited knowledge of Tarot, she knew it was true. The Death card very rarely actually meant death, but it also wasn’t a happy go lucky card. Thinking about her relationships in the past, she guessed it worked. Hence, why she no longer had a boyfriend. Stuck isn’t the word she would use, she never felt stuck with Ren, but the relationship ended all the same. “I guess I can see that. Both of my last relationships are dead, so it seems to fit. What’s the next card, I’m intrigued.” RE: Advice Booth #1 : Open - Oilibhéar Ó Coigligh - 02-28-2026 By definition most past relationships were dead. However, they were reading for more her future and her than those discarded in the past. He said “ For tarot the past is things that still impact one going into the reading of the future. So think on things that are currently not working based on things in your past more than those past relationships in the meaning of the card death. “ Thankfully the next card was more interesting. He said “ The card for the present is the Justice card. This card is more about balance and determining what one’s own truth with a question such as yours. Then once has found the truth in ones circumstances taking action based on that not emotion. “ Advice he questioned partly because he was giving it to a girl and many time they were less than level headed when it came to romance. However, this was about predicting and giving advice on an arranged marriage so he continued “ So perhaps, though likely not with the thirty year old, there is a way for you to perhaps convince your grandmother to let you marry someone better even if it might be of her or another’s choosing. “ The fact that he could see the Hierophant card impacting his words. He said “Now to the future we have the Hierophant card.” Stopping there to pause even if that card had already played into his words. Though in readings it was important to get the impressions of others. With how this was set up the only impressions he could get were what he could hear. Admittedly before now he didn't realize how much seeing the person he was giving a reading played into the things he said. |
