Student Application: Elias Everett - Elias Everett - 08-20-2025 ![]() General Information Character Name: Elias Everett Age: 11 Date of Birth: 25 February, 1909 Blood Status: Pureblood Residence: Diagon Alley, London Family: Edmund Everett (Father, Clockmaker and Shopkeep) Renae Everett (née Rosemont, Mother, Charms Mistress) Eamon Everett (older brother, 3rd year) Edith Everett (younger sister, 9 years old) Various Everett and Rosemont uncles, aunts and cousins Personality & House Preference Personality: The common saying goes that curiosity killed the cat. If such is the case, then it is doubtless a good thing that cats are also blessed with nine lives. Elias however, is decidedly lacking in such cosmic gifts. He wears the scrapes and bumps from his various escapades and experiments with pride, much to the exasperation of his parents. He looks up to his older brother and often tries to tag along with him and his friends, much to Eamon's annoyance. Elias is also equally at home playing make believe with Edith, or sitting and watching as his mother enchants items for the shop, always with a million questions about why something works. He is easily distracted by new discoveries, always eager to tell people about whatever strange gizmo has caught his attention most recently. As a result, making friends has often been something of a challenge, but one he is willing to accept. His family follow the old ways, and he was raised with traditions of Yule and Samhain, with Muggle oddities like Christmas and Halloween being a curiosity to him. He has never had cause to venture into the Muggle world, though is fascinated by tales of Aeroplanes and engines, and all other such things. History: Born and raised in Diagon Alley, Elias' home and life have always been surrounded by the constant bustle and hum of the beating heart of magical London. His father inherited the small family business, Everett's Enchanting Emporium, which has made magical clocks and various other enchanted items for wizarding kind for generations. The shop has a small apartment above, one which is absolutely saturated in expansion charms and magic, where the family lives. As a child of the Alley, Elias knows every cobblestone, hidden path and shop in his small community intimately. Enough so that talking the owner of the icecream parlour into free treats is something well within his practiced abilities. As the middle child, Elias has always existed in something of a strange place. His older brother Eamon will inherit the business, meaning he needs to find his own place in the world. Yet he is also not the youngest like his little sister Edith, who is doted on by the whole family. Often he hopes that he might follow in his mothers footsteps and become a Master of Charms, able to enchant items and objects with even half her skill. His inability to sit still for any extended period of time may interfere with such ambitions however. Many afternoons of his youth had been spent hiding out in one corner or another of the shop, slowly learning about what they sell, reading books, or when his father yelled at him enough, helping to keep the place tidy and the shelves stocked. Elias struggles with talking to strangers, though is often surprisingly helpful when regular customers come through in finding what they need amongst the confusingly laid out store. While calling the Everett's one of the old Pureblood families would be perhaps a stretch, they are very much a part of the wizarding world. They follow wizarding traditions, read the Daily Prophet and can trace their ancestry back for generations. While he would never dare to put himself on the same pedestal as any of the truly Ancient houses, Elias is proud to be a wizard and one who belongs. One the same token, Elias knows better than to step through a portal to Muggle London. He grew up on horror stories about a great Muggle war, one that was replete with tanks, aeroplanes and untold destruction that destroyed half of Europe. In his mind, Muggles are as much bogeyman as Boggarts or Grindylows, and to leave the safety of the wizarding world as a child, especially without an adult, would be the height of folly. His knowledge of Muggles is as such all second hand and often wildly inaccurate, though he is fascinated by technology, steam trains and engines. His worst experience growing up was visiting with his cousins at Rosemont Manor and being made to go flying. For all of his fascination with Muggle aeroplanes, broomsticks do not agree with him. A broken arm and many tears later, and he is unlikely to attempt such things again without some serious prodding. Especially as he knows how much of a fool he made of himself, in front of the other children. Living in Diagon Alley, he has always watched the future Hogwarts students come through over the summer with a mix of excitement and trepidation. For one, he dreams of going to the school and the castle himself, seeing more of the world than the safety of the alley or heavily warded family estates. But that dream has always been tinged by the tiny and never voiced fear of "what if". The terror of being a squib, of not having the same magic as his family, is fate not worth contemplating. House Preference: Let the Hat decide Year Preference: 1st Year Prompt Response: The roofs of the shops spread out across the alley were a maze of chimneys, peaked stoops and other oddities. This early in the morning a heavy fog still lay over much of the street, and the only sounds that could be heard were from the bakery further up the street. Elias had climbed his way out of his bedroom window and had quietly perched himself on the edge of the gutter, watching carefully for owls. He clutched his nightshirt closer, shivering slightly in the cool morning air. He had snuck out each morning for the last two weeks, each day without a letter making the steadily growing ball of dread in his stomach grow larger. He had scraped his knee pretty badly a few days ago, much to his mothers exasperation. Not that she knew quite how he had done it of course. Just that he had gotten himself into mischief yet again. It was par for the course really. Though his usual antics involved making a nuisance of himself in the shop or the Alley somehow. His brother had spent the last few days holed up in the study, working through a veritable mountain of summer homework. It had left Elias at something of a loose end. He had missed Eamon something fierce, and now that his brother had finally come home he apparently had no time for him. He could feel his fist clench against the sharp metal lip of the gutter, digging into his fingers. Only letters for months, and still Hogwarts was determined to take his brother away from him. Even in the summer. It was not fair. Finally, the doldrum and silence of the early morning was broken by a loud hoot and a rush of feathers. Elias eyed the flock of owls warily, though his heart could not help but beat a little faster. Nobody knew exactly when the Hogwarts letters came. Summer of your eleventh year was a fairly broad timeframe, and one which had seen him basically become a pool of anxiety for weeks. Every moment of accidental magic he had ever shown had been re-examined ad nauseum. Was it really him, or had it just been wishful thinking? The question of what if had bounced around in his mind almost constantly. The last false alarm, the owl bringing the Daily Prophet hours earlier than usual, had almost left him in tears. Yet this time. A barn owl, large as any he had ever seen, slowly winged her way towards him. When she dropped the letter on his head, he could barely bring himself to breathe. The parchment of the envelope was thick, and the relief he could feel rushing through him was palpable. "Mr E.S. Everett, the gabled roof, Everett's Enchanting Emporium..." the words breathed out were barely above a whisper. He had made it. Miscellaneous Other Characters NA How did you find us?
