Wyrmgate 13: Let Them Eat Cake :: Gid/Rose/Vin - Gideon Blackwood - 03-15-2026

Term was over. Thank God. It had been a long fucking year. The trial… trials. A new Headmaster, wedding planning, not to mention his job, classes, teenagers, and so much more. After two days at the castle with no students, Gideon and Rose had cleaned up their offices, turned in their files, secured the castle and packed up their belongings. They were finally going home and in eleven days they would be getting married.

Walking in the front door with Fiona’s hand in his, Gideon dropped his bag and sighed. He felt a year's worth of stress leave him in that sigh, finally relaxing with the familiar smell that meant he was home. Leather, cedar, whisky, and cake… Wait… Cake?

Fiona took off running, excited to be home as well. Wasting no time she went looking for one of her all time favorite people on the Earth. “VIIIIINNNNNNNNNIIIIEEEEEE!”

Gideon chuckled at her excitement.

Pulling at the tie around his neck, Gideon took off his suit jacket, hanging it on a hook in the foyer closet. His tie went to the same hook, feeling more relaxed with every action.

Looking over his shoulder, he saw Rose, his fiance, smiling at her daughter as she tore through the house looking for Lavinia. Walking over to his bride slowly, he stood in front of her, head tilted, looking into her gorgeous blue eyes. “Welcome home my bride.” He said softly, with a smile only Rose got to see. Cradling her face, he leaned down to kiss her lips softly, but the kiss quickly turned into a more passionate one. Pulling back, resting his forehead against hers, Gideon sighed.

“I can’t wait for you to be my wife. Mrs. Blackwood has a lovely ring to it.”

Rose smiled as Fiona ran off yelling for her aunt and the scent of cake wafted over her. Just as Gideon turned around and stood in front of her.

“Welcome home my bride.”

A blush rose to her cheeks and a warmth filled her chest. She was days away from getting married, from finally having everything she had dreamed of. Finishing up term had been the last real obstacle. And now it was just putting the finishing touches on everything.

And… cake?

But Rose’s thoughts weren’t on cake for long. Gideon’s mouth found hers, and Rose melted. She wrapped her arms around him, ready for them to be together without any rules like at Hogwarts.

After the kiss turned passionate, after Rose was ready to give in and throw caution to the wind, and just spend the next eleven days in bed with him, he pulled away. She felt flushed from the kiss and it took her a moment to pull her eyes from his lips.

“I can’t wait for you to be my wife. Mrs. Blackwood has a lovely ring to it.”

The passion that Rose felt for the man before her was unlike anything she’d experienced in her life. She’d been driven by wants before, but this was more than that – this was a pure need. Like if she didn’t get to be with him, she would surely die.

“We don’t…” Rose furrowed her brow slightly, her blue eyes searching his. “We don’t have to be apart until then, do we? I know it’s tradition, but… we’ve done enough for that. Right?”

She’d never been married before, but she knew that traditionally the bride and groom spent at least the night before the wedding apart. While she’d do it if absolutely necessary, Rose didn’t want to be away from him for even a minute.

“We don’t… We don’t have to be apart until then, do we? I know it’s tradition, but… we’ve done enough for that. Right?”

Gideon smiled, happy that she was also in agreement that separating was ridiculous. His mother and sister might have something to say about it.

“Well, I don’t want to separate for a second. My mom, Catrin and Vin might have different feelings on the subject. If they do keep us apart, there is this little thing called magic that can help us get around their attempts.” He chuckled, kissing her quickly on the lips again.

Taking her hand in his, entwining their fingers together, he pulled her along as he began walking down the hall. As he got closer to the study… HIS study, he noticed the smells getting stronger. Flowers and sweets assaulted his nose as he came around the corner to investigate.

What… The… Fuck…

His office was an explosion of wedding paraphernalia. Fabric, flowers, cake samples, sweets, lanterns, pink dresses, and more. Every flat surface had something wedding related on it.

Walking into the room, Rose’s hand still in his, he just stared. “My office has been taken over. Do we really need ten… no wait… fifteen different ribbon samples? I didn’t even know there were that many shades of pink.”

His unoccupied hand ran over his face, then down his neck where he began itching. Suddenly everything itched. Looking over at Rose, eyes wide, he whispered, “I think I’m allergic to pink. Do you see hives?”

RE: Wyrmgate 13: Let Them Eat Cake :: Gid/Rose/Vin - Roisin Blackwood - 03-15-2026

Gideon’s smile warmed Rose’s heart. God she loved this man. He had a point, that magic could get them back together. But then again, she knew the women in the family were smart. What if they tried to lock her away in a warded room? The thought entered her mind, her brain panicked a bit, and then returned back to normal. She wouldn’t think those insane thoughts. Surely Lavinia, of all of them, would do what she could to get them together if the worst happened.

The feeling of his fingers laced in hers brought a permanent smile to her lips. Despite that minor hiccup before his trial, she could never be upset in his presence. He brought out the best in her, truthfully.

But as they rounded the corner to enter his office, Rose stifled a laugh. She couldn’t see the expression on Gideon’s face, however she could picture it. It reminded her of the first time Fiona asked him to have a tea party with her. The poor man could try to dodge color all he wanted, but the girls in his life wouldn’t let him remain untouched by it.

She could hear him speaking about ribbon, and her eyes met Vin’s. No doubt his little sister knew this would be his reaction and that was part of the fun of turning his office into a wedding planning center.

She glanced up at him as he rubbed his face with his free hand, and then began scratching his neck. His eyes widened as he continued scratching.

“I think I’m allergic to pink. Do you see hives?”

Rose laughed and then inspected his neck where he’d been scratching. No hives. Just redness from scratching. “I… you know, I think so. Shall I fetch the doctor, then? Or will you make it?” she asked, a smirk playing on her lips.

He was so dramatic. His Slytherin-ness was showing.

“Eleven days, love. Consider it a trial by tulle… and glitter, I’m sure. You’ll do fine,” she said again, placing a peck on his cheek.

As if on purpose, Fiona suddenly popped up.

“Daddy! Can we put glitter in with the petals I will be throwing? Please please please!”

Rose couldn’t help but to laugh, and looked up at Gideon, waiting for his exasperated sigh… or more itching.

“I… you know, I think so. Shall I fetch the doctor, then? Or will you make it?”

Rolling his neck, and shivering at the sheer girliness of his sacred space, he went in to tickle Rose’s side with her cheeky remark. “You think this is funny huh? Keep laughing Love, I promise you a horde of little boys. No more glitter and pink for you.”

“Eleven days, love. Consider it a trial by tulle… and glitter, I’m sure. You’ll do fine.” Gideon shook his head, smiling.

Walking towards his desk. Once used for proper work and business, now held cake samples, fabric options and... Was that cutlery? “Why do we need to pick what utensils people will use? Their eating. Knives, spoons and forks, what more is there to concern ourselves with?”

Picking up the four different spoons he huffed.

Damn it.

There were two silver options, a shiny gold and a strange mix of copper and brass. Feeling the weight and looking at the designs there was a clear winner. Tossing the spoons on the desk one by one he said, “Looks cheap, too shiny, feels strange. This is the one.” He held out the set to Rose for her consideration.

The man was set in his ways and decisive. He was annoyed by every option that sat before him, except the cakes.

“Daddy! Can we put glitter in with the petals I will be throwing? Please please please!”

That one word warmed his heart more than any other in all the languages on Earth. Daddy. Much to his chagrin it was also a magical word that wouldn’t allow him to ever disappoint the little blond girl standing in front of him.

Thankfully, he was a smart man and knew how to redirect her question. “Well Little Love, I think we should ask Aunt Vinnie and Nanna. It’s her property after all. So, Vin. What say you? Would you like to wrangle the child with copious amounts of glitter? Because, as you know. Rose and I will be very busy that day.”

His smile was wide and snarky.

“Now, for the real question. When do we get to eat cake?”

Fiona perked up and started jumping, “CAKE!!! YES, CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE!”

“You think this is funny huh? Keep laughing Love, I promise you a horde of little boys. No more glitter and pink for you.”

Rose giggled when Gideon’s fingers tickled her side, her eyes twinkling at the thought. When Julia first told her she was pregnant, the baby fever had begun. It only got worse when the baby was born. She had to try like hell to keep her priorities straight… she’d already done things the non-traditional way with having two kids without being married first.

The next one… there would be no stigma attached. And boys? She loved Evander but part of her felt like he wasn’t truly hers. She shared him with not just Maddox but Julia too. It had taken her the best part of the past three years to be okay with the arrangement, but she was finally mostly okay with it.

Still – it would be nice to have one that could live with them. It always saddened her to take Evander back to his father’s home.

Rose stood, watching as Gideon looked at the silverware options. She smirked at his questioning why they even have to pick out something specific for this. She mostly agreed, however her first class upbringing in the muggle world had hammered it into her head that things like this were actually important.

She watched, interested in his process for selecting which one was just right. When he discarded three of the four, and handed her the one that he liked, she smiled and nodded, setting it off to the side so as not to get them confused.

Every time that Fiona called Gideon ‘Daddy’, Rose’s heart warmed. She knew how badly the little girl had wanted a father, and she had yet to deliver one to her. Until him.

“Fiona, sweetie, take a breath and calm down,” Rose said as the blonde girl bounced around yelling about cake. She’d never seen her so animated before, it was delightful.

RE: Wyrmgate 13: Let Them Eat Cake :: Gid/Rose/Vin - Lavinia Blackwood - 03-16-2026

Everyone in the family was more than thrilled about the upcoming nuptials. None more so than her mother. The woman was hardly ever seen without tears of pure joy in her eyes, especially at the mention of little Fiona.

Lavinia knew her brother wouldn’t like the state of his office when he and Rose and Fiona returned home from Hogwarts. Which is precisely why she had to make sure it was over-the-top bright and happy and annoying for him. That is also why she ensured all of the cake samples were set up just in time. No, the flower girl dress didn’t have to be out at the moment but it was for a couple of reasons:
  1. Fiona loved looking at it, and the joy on the girl’s face melted Vinnie’s heart.
  2. The look on her brother’s face was going to be great dream fuel.
So, because of that, she had twenty different pink ribbon choices strewn about, more than two sets of silverware to choose from… the china was also buried somewhere, but they could get it later.

Did all of this have to be decided today? Again, no. But why not make her brother suffer a bit more than necessary?

God, she loved fucking with him.

“Well Little Love, I think we should ask Aunt Vinnie and Nanna. It’s her property after all. So, Vin. What say you? Would you like to wrangle the child with copious amounts of glitter? Because, as you know. Rose and I will be very busy that day.”

Grinning, Vinnie’s eyes widened as she looked at her niece. “Well of course! The more glitter the better!”

Then the attention was turned to the cake. So Vinnie motioned for them to sit. “So we were thinking that we are going to have a tall cake, so more than one flavor would be good. Each layer could be a different flavor, but mostly we must figure out which flavor should have the most and so on and so forth to the top.”

Lavinia took a seat. “Fe, you try the strawberry because I think it’ll be your favorite,” she said and grinned at the girl as she pushed the slice towards her. Gideon was given a slice of spice cake and Rose was given a slice of vanilla.

RE: Wyrmgate 13: Let Them Eat Cake :: Gid/Rose/Vin - Gideon Blackwood - 03-16-2026

Fiona was more than excited with the planning process. Especially the cake taste testing.

“Fiona, sweetie, take a breath and calm down,” Gideon laughed at Rose’s remark. There was no calming the pink princess at this point. Might as well sugar her up then turn her over to her aunt for a few hours. Serves Vin right.

Who walked through the door at just the right time. Giving Fiona all her heart desires was something Vin, Gideon and his Mum had in common. They’d pay for it during the teen years, but he couldn’t find it in him to care when her sweet face smiled up at him.

So… Glitter there would be.

“So we were thinking that we are going to have a tall cake, so more than one flavor would be good. Each layer could be a different flavor, but mostly we must figure out which flavor should have the most and so on and so forth to the top. Fe, you try the strawberry because I think it’ll be your favorite,”

Rolling up his sleeves, ready for a sugar battle, Gideon sat on the edge of the sofa in front of the array of cake flavors.

Gideon picked up the fork he picked while looking at the cutlery and studied the cakes like a man looking over evidence in an important investigation.

“Right,” he said, gesturing at the tray. “We’ll do this properly.” He pointed to the first slice.

“Fiona, your mission, strawberry. Ladies, lets do this. We taste then report our findings.” Gideon picked up the one in front of him, a spiced sponge with a soft white whipped frosting. Taking his first bite he chewed and swallowed. Hmmm.

Another bite. He frowned thoughtfully. Basic. “…acceptable, but dare I say just ok. I think it's whipped cream frosting, so not my favorite. I prefer buttercream.”

Turning to Fiona to see what she thought of her pink frosted piece had outright laughed. Before Rose, it had been years since he laughed that hard. “Little Fi, you’re supposed to eat the cake, not wear it. I assume by the crumbs all over you that you approved of the strawberry? Ladies, how was your cake?”
