Early April
He didn’t take Herbology as a class. The reality was plants could be just as dangerous as animals in the wizarding world. He was very much for reducing the dangers he was exposed to in general. A life change he’d made prior to starting at Hogwarts when his father died on the job working as a cursebreaker.
He’d taken Herbology when it was required but he was thankful it was now not required for him. Not that avoiding both Herbology and Magical Creatures as subjects had truly reduced the dangers he’d be exposed to. Just weeks ago his fellow students had been kidnapped a situation he still didn’t fully have his emotions around the shock of. In the moment he’d been numb to the predictable theatrics of it all. Though after when he wrote home to his mother things came more into light as he formed the words on his parchment.
The similarities between the dangers at Hogwarts and the issues at home in Belfast did mirror each other. The reality of that had him never send the letter home describing the incident and just a letter home saying he’d been safe and talking about the interesting books he found in the library. Thankfully, he’d found a new book on combining conjuring with mechanical objects that he’d written about at length in his letter home. The response to that letter implied his mother heard about what happened at Hogwarts, but not how bad it had been.
Outside of the greenhouses he shouted “ Tilly. “. He mentioned he’d meet her at the greenhouses curious about the various plants she had that were used in the wing. Thinking he heard her voice in Greenhouse #5, not realizing what it was, he walked into that and past the entrance area.
Two steps in a vine came towards him and he screamed “ Bloody Hell. These plants need sleeping potions more than the wing does. “
This mixture of shock as the plant reached out for him probably produced the most emotion and panic anyone had heard out of Bear this term at Hogwarts. He raised his wand and cast a hot air charm at the plant at a complete loss for what to do as he tried to walk backwards.
